“Sabah Nouri Company for Trade and General Contracting”

The various attending of businessmen at the Conference of Reconstructing Iraq at Al-Rasheed Hotel 24th. - 25th.July 2007 had big positive evidences towards the Iraqi economy especially at this crucial time facing Iraq economy, especially Baghdad, the capital and the important economic center.
Mr. Nouri was one of the businessmen who attended the Conference of Reconstructing Iraq. He is the owner of “Sabah Nouri Company for General Trading”. He has industry experience of more than 11 years. Mr. Nouri hailed all those patronaged this unique economic Conference for their efforts and enthusiasm to bring about success for the Conference.
Mr. Nouri said, “Our Company performs various activities such as contracts. We carried out many projects which had big and direct effect on people such as; rehabilitating power stations at many Iraqi provinces e.g. Al-Musaib, Al-Rasheed Camp, Doura power station, Al – Taji gas station and Al-Quds at Al-Rashdiyah. We signed contracts with the Ministry of Electricity, PACTEL and CPA, the American company. We provided an operator of 520 lines with install and maintenance services to the Ministry of Trade and supplied the Ministry of Electricity with 600 air-conditioning sets.”
He referred to the big role of his company in eradicating the unemployment phenomenon by employing large numbers of Iraqi workers. “More than 70 engineers, technical and administration workers we undertake in each tender. The Company has equipments to run the work and ambitious to expand its work all over Iraq.” he said.
He described his participation in the Conference “very useful” since it provides contact with Iraqis whether businessmen, government establishments, experts and academies. “They discuss any problem they face and look for solution. Our Conference succeeded and we salute the selective group who run it. Our Company is a member of the Iraqi American Chamber of Commerce and Industry and we never forget the services provided to us by the Chamber to develop our business to serve Iraq.” Mr.Nouri concluded.

Mr. Alaa Shawket, 1951, a graduate engineer and the owner of AL-Jazeera United Arab Company, general contracting, established 2003. The Company employs 17 permanent, specialized and technical staff beside others would be employed when needed. The Company has a Gold Membership degree at the Iraqi American Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Mr. Shawket has a 34 year experience which he gained since his work as a government employee. He witnessed many contracts signed between his office and the concern parties. “Most of our work concerns constructing and rehabilitating. Now we are building a hospital in one of the governorates and a school in Baghdad (new construction). We mainly deal with the Iraqi Authorities, e.g. Ministries of Irrigation, Housing and Municipality and we have contracts with irrigation and tapping on eastern Euphrates.” said Mr. Shawket. He performs most of the contracts without relying on sub-contractors because he thinks direct performance reduces costs and improves the standard of work which brought about success and the trust of the contracting parties to his Company.
Mr. Shawket belongs to an engineering family; his wife is an engineer and she works with him. His brother, Mehdi and his sons are engineers too. In addition to this engineering staff, he has a specialized Dr. to look after his employees. He described the Conference as, “The first unique Conference in Iraq. It is a fundamental step towards economic progress. Those who hosted the Conference brought about the ambition of the attendants through the well prepared program by the Administration and practiced by the lecturers as well as the vital topics of the high experienced economic and administrational personals. Iraq lacks for such conferences and we ask for more in future to build Iraq.” he said.

In Iraq, Continuing Projects and vision towards future

Though, Iraq possesses strong economic fundamentals, huge natural wealth, enormous water, humanitarian resources and vital strategy site but on the map of economy, the Iraqi economy suffered big shrunk, withdrew and fall back. Economy growth reached the lowest degree and this directly reflected on the production level and weakened its motion and caused huge increase to the number of the unemployed people because there was no patronage to the private sector.
The previous regime adopted old policies in solving the unemployment phenomenon. They didn’t take into consideration the negative impact of the huge masses of the unemployed on society. The years proceeded the process of change proved that when violence acts increased rapidly.
The Conference of Rebuilding Iraq, under the patronage of the Iraqi American Chamber of Commerce and Industry, took the responsibility of resolving the unemployment phenomenon and providing jobs for the unemployed people, as a responsibility by dedicating 5 billion USD. There was an active and keen attendance of businessmen to pick up the country from its distress and for spreading security and stability.
