Power crisis and the role of the private sector at putting forth the effective solution for it

The Iraqi American Chamber of Commerce and Industry embraced and patronized the biggest economic demonstration that Iraq witnessed after the transformation process and allocation of immense amounts of money for labor and employment. This had a clear impact on the participants, who were very keen to attend the Unemployment and Rebuilding Iraq Conference 2007.
Businessmen hailed the administration and organization of the Conference. This was confirmed by Mr. Khalid Ismael Nasir, Director of the Iraqi Center for Solar Energy. He expressed his wish to adopt his project which is based on making use of the solar energy to supply residents and markets with electric power based on actual data in the aftermaths of the electric sector’s paralysis and incapability of providing electricity due to terrorist acts which hit the infrastructure.
The Sun Power projects depend on the utmost use of sun rise continuously in Iraq. The cost of receiving the sun power if the batteries are established in Iraq cost less than the imported ones. In the beginning costs are expensive but gradually they come down. The Director is keen to employ big number of those experienced and qualified in this field and the number of employees will be increased whenever his growth Project expands in future.
Mr. Khalid expressed his keen desire that the concerned establishments adopt his project to proceed with it. “After long series of intended failures the role of the private sector should be activated in the national economy…..the private sector builds people.”Khalid said.
The dialogue at the Conference Hall dealt with this issue and the necessity of the private sector for accommodating the large number of the jobless and providing employment opportunities

Iraqi economists discuss means of resolving the unemployment issue in Iraq

Iraqi economists discussed the unemployment issue in Iraq and the effective means to provide labor opportunities. Discussions took place at the Unemployment and Rebuilding Conference 2007 held at the Al- Rasheed International Hotel on 24- 25 July 2007 under the patronage of the Iraqi American Chamber of Commerce and Industry. More than 200 businessmen and 100 personnel representing the Iraqi and the American Governments participated in the Conference.

In his speech to the attendants, Mr. Raad Omar, the Executive Officer of the Iraqi - American Chamber of Commerce and Industry said, “We are here, today, to find a suitable mechanism to resolve the unemployment issue in today’s Iraq. We hope that through the participants we can find some means of cooperation between the Ministries concerned with unemployment and private sector companies to achieve distinguished outcomes and recommendations to limit this phenomenon which chases every Iraqi house. We hope to put an end to it through a new Program called “Iraq First” which aims at providing labor opportunities against awarding to Iraqi companies contracts valued to 5 billion USD.” read more..

Technical companies are committed to their responsibilities

With the grace of the Iraqi American Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the technical and specialized companies had the opportunity to practice their role at the constructing and rehabilitating process in the New Iraq. The Chamber, in coordination with the Ministries, the Labor and Social Affairs, Higher Education, Industry and Planning, held the Conference under the slogan “ Building Iraq by Iraqi hands ” at Al-Rasheed Hotel to find jobs for the unemployed Iraqis. The Conference was also under the patronage of the Multi Nationality Forces which raised the banner, “Iraq First” 5 billion USD.
At the Conference participants exchanged interesting and useful debates and there were signs of labor opportunities for the companies. 200 companies, members of the Chamber, attended the Conference after receiving invitations.
Mr. Othman Aziz, Managing Director of a constructing company. Having 25 years experience, he hopes to win a tender to serve his country, develop his work and increase his income. At the Conference, Mr. Aziz found his target since the Chamber provided him with all facilities to win a tender. Those who accept the tenders were present too. They gave full description of how to apply for tenders and win one or more especially they increased the percentage of projects referred to Iraqi companies from 50% to 70%. This will encourage and bring competition between the concern companies.
Mr. Aziz returned to the Headquarters of his Company at the Al-Karradah district of Baghdad and held a meeting with his staff. He explained to them the details he got, filled the concern applications and submitted the tender to the party concerned. Being sure of having the opportunity to win the tender, Aziz appreciated the role of the Iraqi American Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Multi Nationality Forces for organizing the Conference and providing it with success means which proved to the media just perfect and unique.
