International and American
Organizations at the
“Rebuilding Iraq” Unemployment Conference, 2007
Attendance at the 2007 “Rebuilding Iraq” Unemployment Conference
included the US Army Civil Administration, US Embassy, Ir aqi
Rebuilding and donor organizations. The speeches focused on the
efficacious approaches to resolve problematic unemployment. US Civil
Administration urged Iraqi companies to participate in the “Iraq
First” Program.
“Free Trade” dialogued with Ms. Laila Kuznezov, Izdihar Organization
for Private Sector Development and Investment Promotion, and she
said “the day was very wonderful. The unemployment themes for
discussion were very interesting. The presence of women is wonderful
and effective in spite of their little attendance. We, at Izdihar
Organization, strive to support businesswomen by affording to them
circumstances to suit them, developing the culture of business for
women.” She expressed her opinion about the private sector business
saying “the convergence of large numbers of the private sector’s
companies is an indication of the affectivity of the sector and its
endeavor to contribute within its full capability at Iraq’s
rebuilding.”
Colonel Midrelt said “The conference was very generous. The
organization put together by IACCI was wonderful. We met several
companies that we could not be introduced to on account of the
relatively deteriorating security situation. Here they are, bearing
their pioneering role at contribution, via “Iraq First” Program,
towards Iraq’s rebuilding.
Mrs. Ellisa, US embassy representative, said “The goal of the
conference is to find or produce new jobs to the unemployed. The
fruits of the conference were in the meeting of the US Civil
Administration, the public sector and Iraqi ministries. These were
consolidated on the next day when the private companies were trained
on how to fill out and submit contract forms. I am, as a woman, an
advocate for the participation of Iraqi women in the Iraqi business
society.”
Mrs. Azza Humadi, Manager of Women’s Project for Stanley Baker Hill
and a representative for the US Embassy, said “I am really very
proud of the US Government’s support to businesswomen. The aggregate
profits of women’s business were estimated at 35 billion dollars for
the period January-July 2007, consisting of 60 contracts. I have
conducted many workshops for developing the skills for women,
training them to set up an action plan as well as helping them to
possess the sound tools needed to promote any program that serves
society and businesswomen society. We queried about the existence of
many companies that exploit the woman’s representation as a front
for illegal profits through receipt of contracts and tenders in the
cover of woman’s access into businesswomen society. We have
discovered some cases of companies acting playfully with these
concepts; we determined to bar them from tenders submitted by the US
Embassy and by the Iraqi Reconstruction Office. When I delivered my
speech, I discovered that the attendance was very attentive. I got
to know many Iraqi companies that I had not met before. I expect
that the conference has achieved its projected goals.” She concluded
that women are the hope for the future.
Lady Colonel Maya Hemingway, representative of Iraqi rebuilding
Office, discussed her admiration to the idea of having women
participate in the business society. “This gives a good impression
about the future of the factuality of the woman in today’s Iraq…… I
am very happy to be in the “Iraq First” Program which supports
having Iraqi companies participate in rebuilding Iraq and submit to
our to-be proposed five billion dollars worth of contracts.
Colonel Gdan Locollin said “I was very enthusiastic about the survey
results issued by IACCI. It is a very gigantic effort. Mr. Raad
Ommar responded to my request for a copy of the survey which calls
for analyzing the causes of unemployment and finding employment
opportunities.” He thanked IACCI for successfully organizing the
activity.
Colonel Taveeta, representative of US Army Civil Administration,
said “The work of IACCI is effective and successful. This
get-together has achieved its objectives via the convening of the
greatest get-together between the Iraqi Rebuilding Office and
private sectors’ companies. We hope for making the essential
utilities of electricity, water and communications available through
the contracts’ outcome.”
Staff Sergeant Regee said “The conference was good and significant,
particularly in Baghdad, as well as beneficial to Iraqi businessmen
society. Many of the attending Iraqi companies discussed many
obscure points which we used to neglect before, e.g. the method of
attaining the contracts and the difficulty experienced by Iraqi
businessmen to reach the Iraq Rebuilding Office. We have noted these
remarks in order to address the work disorder we are having.” |
